Finding an English speaking doctor in Emden is one of the first things you need to sort out after moving here. Healthcare is not the place to be guessing what someone is telling you or nodding along hoping for the best. At Emden Medical Center we see patients in both English and German. You can describe your symptoms, ask questions, and understand your treatment plan all without needing a translator.
Why It Matters More Than People Think
Most people assume they will manage with basic German or that doctors will speak enough English to get by. Sometimes that works. But a routine consultation is one thing explaining a complex symptom, understanding a diagnosis, or discussing medication interactions is another. Getting that wrong has consequences. Having an English speaking doctor in Emden means you can have that conversation properly from the start, without anything being lost or misunderstood.
What We Offer at Emden Medical Center
We are a general practice clinic with specialist services on-site. English-speaking patients can access the full range of what we offer, including general and preventive care, emergency and urgent consultations, pulmonology, therapy and rehabilitation, and our on-site pharmacy. There is no separate process for international patients. You book, you come in, you are seen. Same as everyone else. You can view our full list of services on our services page.
Insurance What You Need to Know
Germany has two types of health insurance statutory (GKV) and private (PKV). If you are employed here your employer will have enrolled you in statutory insurance automatically. If you are freelance, a student, or arriving on an international contract you likely have private or international cover instead. We accept both. The German Federal Ministry of Health provides a full overview of how the system works if you want to read further. If you are not sure what cover you have or whether it is accepted here, call us before your first visit and we will sort it out with you. When you come in bring your insurance card if you have one, your passport or residence permit, and any medical records relevant to why you are coming.
Booking and Walk-Ins
New patients are always welcome at our clinic. You can book online through our appointments page or just walk in. We are open Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 16:00 and Saturday to Sunday from 08:00 to 12:00. Try to arrive about 15 minutes early on your first visit so reception can get your details on file before you are called in. If you need to reschedule that is no problem just contact us and we will find another slot that works for you.
A Few Questions We Get Asked Often
Can the whole appointment be in English? Yes, from start to finish. What if I have an emergency? For anything life-threatening call 112 this is Germany’s emergency number. For urgent situations that are not life-threatening come straight to the clinic and let reception know when you arrive. Do you treat children? Yes, bring their insurance details and vaccination records if you have them. The Robert Koch Institut publishes the recommended vaccination schedule for children in Germany which is worth reading if you have recently arrived with kids.
